Klaus Ludwing CLEMENT discovered his passion for the manufacture of violins in the workshop of master Karl Höfner in Bubenreuth, Babaria. He also worked with master luthier Hagen Weise, sharing a workshop. Finally, Clement & Weise started a brand that was successfully established in the international market.
For 30 years Clement has been researching antique violin varnishes using historical literature from his own library, and has been studying the acoustics of bowed string instruments.
This German luthier managed the string instruments department at Roderich Paesold Company from 1984 to 1995.
In 1987 he took the exams to become a certified luthier master, administered by the chamber of artisans, Nuernberg.
He was also in charge of the string instruments department at the company Karl Hoefnes and Roderich Paesold, part of Boosey & Hawkes from 1995 to 2001.
In 2000 he founded the Clement & Weise workshop in Bubenreuth with Hagen Weise.
On 1st January 2010, Klaus Ludwing Clement opened a new master workshop in the city of music: Leipzig.
Aside from his reputation as a violin maker, Klaus has also earned an international reputation for his many articles on violin making.
Klaus is an active member of several professional organizations such as Entente Interationales (EILA), German Violin and Bow Makers (VDG), and the Violin Society of America (VSA).
